POSTHUMAN DOCS

a studio by filmmaker and researcher Kylian Weijers dedicated to new ways of seeing, being and becoming

MISSION

Hi, I'm Kylian Weijers: Amsterdam-based filmmaker, editor and researcher. Posthuman Docs is my studio of documentary practice and research – my field station, if you will. It's where I explore how film can function not only as a reflection of the world, but as a tool that reshapes how we relate: to ourselves, to others, and to the more-than-human.

I work from a posthumanist and feminist perspective. That means I question who gets to speak, who gets seen, and how narratives might unfold beyond the grip of the dominant gaze.

I challenge extractive modes of storytelling by grounding my practice in research, deep listening, and collective inquiry; always seeking to multiply perspectives and generate new forms of relational knowledge.

POSTHUMANISM

I work with posthuman and feminist thought to reconfigure what stories are, how they come into being, and who they serve.

Posthumanism asks us to move beyond the idea of the human as the central subject of the world – and instead to see life as entangled, shifting, and collective. This isn't just about communities, animals, machines or nature, but about how we think, feel, and relate in a world shaped by histories of colonialism, capitalism, and technological power.

In practice, this means working from the inside-out and approaching one another not as objects of study, but engaging from shared positions and always questioning: Who speaks? Who listens? What worlds are made in the process?

WORK

Posthuman Docs brings together nearly a decade of interdisciplinary media practice with critical research. I hold a Master's degree in Documentary & Fiction from the University of Amsterdam, where I wrote on documentary ethics, posthumanism, and identity (co)construction within the filmmaker-participant relationship.

Through film, installation, and digital forms, I create work that blurs the lines between documentary and ritual, research and imagination. I'm drawn to stories that move between the personal and the collective – especially those that make visible what is often overlooked, misread, or misunderstood.

→ Posthuman Docs is a process of becoming; unfolding and transforming. If these ideas resonate with you or you would like to collaborate, I'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, explore some of my work at kylianweijers.com.
